Today I went to Beanz ‘n’ Berriez, located at the Kothaguda junction (next to Sujana supermarket). I’m not sure of the correct name, the board on the coffee shop says “Beanz ‘n’ Berriez” but the napkins say “Brewberriez”. Either way, this is a pretty nice place, with decent coffee. Has books to read, games to play, a small niche for live performances apparently, and cane furniture including hanging chairs which are nice, albeit overseeing the heavy traffic below which isn’t a pretty sight 😀 The place could however have had a richer/warmer feel to it, but it is still a good hang out.
I ordered a Cappuccino and read some Archies comics 😀
The Chocolate Room in Banjara Hills is a place that I sometimes like, and sometimes don’t. It seems to be cheerful enough during the day, but somehow appears very depressing to me in the later hours. The beverages also are okay-ish…I prefer the colder ones over the warm coffees available. They do have some fun stuff like a “Cuddle Cup”, but it was the cup that I liked more than the brew inside 😛
It’s a good place to meet up location-wise. I ordered a Cafe Mocha which was decent enough.
I went to Udipi in Indiranagar, Gachibwoli (approx location) tonight. It’s a south indian restaurant with great food, and really nice filter coffee. It’s an awesome experience to stand on the road and have some nice coffee in winters 🙂
Udipi is pretty much a roadside restaurant with hardly any sitting space and tons of customers because of the nice, cheap food. It was therefore a little strange for me at first to take out my camera and take any pictures. In fact, I ended up having way more coffee than I originally intended to :D, while gathering the courage to take out my camera. Finally, I did take it out, and received a fairly nice response (most people either continued eating or looked curious), while the coffee guy was happy to get photographed 🙂
I couldn’t get any decent shots though, mainly because it was dark and I didn’t want to stand there with my camera for long. This is the best one I got, but it conveys the spirit!
Today I went to meet an old friend at Gloria Jean’s Coffees at InOrbit Mall. Started in Chicago, US, this is now a 100% Australian owned coffee shop (courtesy Wikipedia). Nice coffee shop for sure, given what you typically find in Hyderabad. The interiors are wooden – standard but nice, and this outlet overlooks a park which makes it a nice and sunny hang out during the day too.
We ordered a Mocha shake, a Signature coffee shake, and a Blueberry muffin. I liked all of them but I confess that I have a sweet tooth so some might find them a bit too sweet 😀
Overall, I liked the place. Little expensive (119/- bucks for a shake), but nice place to sit around for a while nevertheless.
Hyderabad is depressing at 10:45pm. At least if you’re scouting for some open place that would serve coffee 😦 Given that I was in Gachibowli at the time, I had to finally settle for the Barista outlet in Jayabheri. Although I’d initially wished to go to some new place, the good thing about this place is that it stays a open for a while after 11pm. I think you can give it a shot up till 11:30pm. Ditto for the Subway next to it.
I ordered a Cafe Mocha which was nice after the first sip. I like Barista given it was one of the first few to start the “coffee shop” trend in India, although I feel the chain can be maintained much better. Plus, it would be nice to have some variant of the filter coffee served at Barista 🙂 At least in South India!
